Description:Common shrubs (but only seen in this one swamp) or small trees to 4 m tall; flowers yellow and visited by various flies; population composed of ca. equal numbers of staminate and carpellate plants; staminate flowers about as large as carpellate flowers, nectar produced in carpellate flowers by staminodia, and in staminate flowers by stalked glands on the inner whorl of stamens. 
Habitat:Taxodium ascendens - Pinus elliottii swamp, with Magnolia virginiana, Nyssa biflora [N. sylvatica var. biflora], Gordonia lasianthus, Persea palustris, Lyonia lucida, Vaccinium fuscatum [V. corymbosum], and Ilex myrtifolia [I. cassine var. myrtifolia].
