Habitat:Dry, mixed hardwood and coniferous forest dominated by Quercus laurifolia, Cornus florida, Prunus caroliniana, Quercus maritima [Q. laurifolia], Carya glabra, Ximenia americana, Sabal palmetto, Juniperus silicicola [J. virginiana], scattered Prunus serotina, Liquidambar styraciflua, and Pinus clausa; in soil of ca. equal parts fine sand and organic material.

Description:Stems purple unspotted; rhizome horizontal, irregularly constricted with occasional nodules; rhizome 60 cm long, to 2 cm thick. 
Habitat:Much disturbed, old white sand scrub with hardwood intrusion, especially in moist areas.
