Description:Tree with slender stem, 20 ft. tall; flowers yellow, anthers bright orange; odor medium strong, much like Prunus viroiniana and not pleasant. 
Habitat:Low, locally swampy open woods and thickets dominated by Acer rubrum var. drumondii and Liquidambar styraciflua with prominent shrub layer 5-15 ft. tall of Persea palustris, Magnolia virginiana, Symplocos tinctoria, Leucothoe racemosa, Vaccinium spp., Clethrra alnifolia, Azalea nudiflora, Smilax spp. (evergreen), Viburnum, Aronia floribunda, with occasional colonies of Sphagnum sp.
